Oh My, I can’t believe it…

May 17, 2012

It is amazing how time flies.  It seems like just yesterday my sweet baby girl was born.  That is not reality though.  We recently celebrated her 10TH birthday.  Why is this so hard to comprehend?  Oh yeah, because time just seems to FLY by the older I get!!!!  Anyone else feel the same way?

Hubby and I remember our parents telling us to not be in such a rush to grow up because it will be here before you know it.  Funny, we are telling Julie and Captain America the same thing.  Some things just do not change.  Young ones are so eager to grow up and be an adult and adults are holding on for dear life to slow down time!!!  Sound familiar?!?!?

Julie decided that she wanted to have a slumber party this year.  (We did this a couple of years ago and had 7 girls stay the night, learned from the first time!!!)  She was able to invite her three closest friends.  Why three?  Including Julie that gave us 4 girls, an even number, no one is left out.  (Learned that from one of my friends!  She is sooo smart!!!)

Julie wanted to plan her whole party including the games, what the girls would do, what we would eat, etc.  I decided I would do the planning and keep it all a secret!  It was torture for Julie!!! Winking smile   I saw this idea on Pinterest and adapted it for Julie’s party.

Slumber Party Idea

I decided to turn our balloons into a scavenger hunt.  The girls arrived at 5pm.  There was a clue in each balloon as to what we would be doing.  Shortly after 5 the girls got to pop the first balloon and read the clue.

After the girls popped the first balloon, they read the clue…

“I’m hot and spicy.  I am a dish that you eat.  What am I?”

The girls were trying to figure out what the clue meant and I told them to get the balloons and head to the car.  They were shocked!  They didn’t realize we would be leaving the house!!!  The girls loaded up, buckled up, and we were to the end of the driveway before they figured out we were going to Chili’s.

IMG_7496

The girls and I headed to Chili’s and had dinner.  We colored, talked, played a “What if?” game and of course there were lots of giggles!

We finished dinner and headed outside to pop the next balloon.  (I apologize the the other patrons sitting outside that jumped out of their skin.)  The girls did think this was a lot of fun!

IMG_7506

The next clue read…

“A race around the track or a stroll along the green.  What am I?”

The guesses were the park, a golf course and then Julie shouted Putt Putt!  Yep, we headed to the miniature golf course!  One of my dear friends and Aunt K to my children met me there and I was so glad!  I didn’t think that some of the girls had never played miniature golf before!  She was a huge help.  One guided and the other had crowd control!  These are four really well behaved girls, but it was my responsibility to get them all home safely to their Mamas.  My mother hen instinct was on high alert!

We first played some arcade games and then we hit the green!

A lot of tickets were won from this little baby!

IMG_2017

And it just isn’t right to play arcade games without a little Skee Ball!

Mom even got a few swings in!  Yep, my feet is all you get when I have the camera!!!

IMG_2030

Aunt K and Mom even had a little fun of our own!  Don’t ask, it was just a moment!

After miniature golf it was time for a group photo…

IMG_7517

And then for the next balloon…

IMG_7515

Unfortunately we had a case of the missing clue.  It miraculously disappeared!!!  Thankfully, Aunt K spilled the beans!!!  We headed to frozen yogurt!!!

The clue would have read…

“I’m yummy in your tummy and cool to the touch.  What am I?”

The better pic of Julie was blurry Sad smile. She really was enjoying herself!!!

After frozen yogurt, we headed out to pop the last balloon.  (Sorry no picture!)

The clue read…

“It’s time to wind down and relax a little…  Enjoy a little cinema.  What am I?”

This was the funniest response of all and the least favorite clue.  The plan was to head home and the girls would watch a movie.  I got moans, groans and “Not the Bed, it’s evil!”  It was 10:30 at night and we did have church in the morning.  By the time we actually got home the girls only had 40 min before they had to go to bed.  So a movie was not watched.  They played and enjoyed each other’s company and were diligently in bed for midnight!

Overall the night was a success.  The girls wrote me a sweet thank you note the next morning thanking me for the best party ever.  It was a super sweet note that would warm any mama’s heart!

Happy Birthday to my sweet Julie.  I pray that you will seek God’s will for your life and choose to serve him with every fiber of your being.  I pray that your heart and soul will be set on fire for the Lord.

I love you so much!

Mom~

Is Everything OK???

May 14, 2012

Are you still alive?  Is everything OK with Momto2Monkeys?  The answer to that is yes!  Praise God!  I have been around the last week, just been dealing with a very full plate.  No major catastrophes, just this thing called life.

I have not forgotten about my blog or my wonderful readers.  My blog is still here, just lingering on the sideline as I deal with the full plate.

I hope you will wait around with me and be praying for me as I finish up school, tackle new challenges and deal with the things that life deals here and there.

I am praying for direction from the Lord and waiting on His guidance on how to handle everything.  I know that He will provide the wisdom, guidance, and direction I need.

I can’t wait to get back to writing daily and sharing what the Lord places on my heart with you.  In the mean time, I will sit and rest in his presence as he shows me His ways.

Blessings to all you!

Five Minute Friday… Real

May 4, 2012

When last did you write for fun?

Not to impress anyone, not for blog hits or comments or Pinterest pins?

When last did you just write?

On Fridays over here a group of people who love to go all out buck wild for the fun of the written word gather to share what five minutes buys them. Just five minutes. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

GO…

Real… it is a word that is tough to live up to.  Many times we want to hide.  Other times we just want to let it all out and be too real.   Where is the balance?  It is tough to say.

I love that I can be real with the people closest to me.  When I have having a rough day and feel like I am in the jaws of a shark, I can call them and let it all out.  They don’t take it upon themselves, they just listen and encourage.  When I’m having a great day, I get to be real and share the joys of the day.  They love me no matter what and are always there to encourage and support me.

It isn’t easy to be real with everyone.  There is a level of discernment that we have to use and follow.  That discernment will tell us how much we can and or should share with an individual.  We can be real and not share all of the details.

When we are real, others know it and see a genuine side to us.  I appreciate when others are honest enough to say, I have had a rough day.  That may be all they need to say and we just follow it up with a hug.  Other times, a person may need an ear to listen to them.  That’s all…

I want to be real to my friends and to those I come in contact with.  I also want to be real with my Heavenly Father.  He carries my burdens and my struggles.  The best part is He wants to.  What a joy to know that my Heavenly Father loves me so much He will carry me through.  All I have to do is be real.

STOP…

My List of Pinterest To Do’s…

May 3, 2012

I’ve talked about my love for Pinterest before.  I have a lot of pins but no time to accomplish them all.  There are some ideas that just stick out to me and I know I want to do them.  So I created a “To Do” board this past week.  I am pinning the ideas there that I know I want to get done ASAP.  As I do them, I’ll move them to another board, maybe a “Done” board!

Here are my pins on my “To Do” Board…

For Julie…

Slumber Party Idea

Julie turns 10 this weekend and we are having a slumber party.  I love this idea and am doing it this weekend for her party.  We will take the balloons with us in the car as we go around town!

In the Kitchen…

Peanut Butter Banana Chia Smoothie

Peanut Butter Banana Chia Smoothie from Sugar-Free Mom

Have you heard of Chia seeds?  I had about a year ago and bought some.  When I got home I couldn’t find the recipe I had bought them for.  Until recently, I am using them as often as possible.  They are full of fiber, omega 3 and omega 6.  The health benefits are amazing.  Check out this website for more info and recipes.

Energy Balls

Energy Balls from the Athlete’s Plate

This particular post has a recipe for these Energy Balls as well as a great list of snack ideas for on the go.

Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning from Mommy Hobbies

Organization…

Can Organizer

Really… Why didn’t I think of this?!?!  Genius!  We buy a number of can goods in bulk and this is going to help organize our pantry shelves!

Kitchen Command Center

Kitchen Command Center from Lovely Crafty Home

I really love this idea.  It will help keep clutter off of the counter.  That is a big plus for me (oh, and Hubby will be thrilled too!).  I also like the idea of having a calendar clipped to the front to keep track of all of our events.

Rotating Goal List

Rotating Goal List from cornflower blue studio

I like to see what I need to do in front of me.  This is such a great idea.  This is definitely getting done and will be in my “Life” Binder ~or~ maybe hung next to my computer.

Our Week

Weekly Calendar from The Creative Crate

I really like the idea of putting a summary of the week’s activities all in one place.  This is so creative.  It would also make a great gift.  This goes hand in hand with the Kitchen Command Center!

Press N' Seal

Press N’ Seal on refrigerator shelves.

What a fabulous idea.  I loathe cleaning the refrigerator.  This is going to make life so much easier.  Every couple of months (or sooner if needed!) all I will have to do is change the Press N’ Seal and the refrigerator is clean!

For the Home…

stacked floor length mirrors

Stacked Floor-Length Mirrors from apartment therapy

When I saw this I knew exactly where I wanted to do this.  I have an ottoman that is in our bedroom against the wall.  This is going to be great over it.  I can’t wait to get it done!

Art Display

The kids love to display their art work.  To be honest, I love to have their art work adorn our home too!  I haven’t figured out where this is going to go, but it is going somewhere!  I think it is going to be great!

This is my list of To-Do’s!  I have found that by putting the pins that Jump out at me on a separate board it has helped me to focus.  Once I complete these, I will work on others that I have pinned ~or~ add new ones to this board!! LOL.

Now that I have a way to stay focused, I am hoping to complete some of the ideas I have pinned.  Let’s face it, accomplishing every pin we pin on Pinterest is just not realistic.  It also doesn’t make us a bad wife, mother, or person.  There are only 24 hours in a day and we have to manage that time wisely!  BUT, we can accomplish some of the ideas and feel good about it.

What pins are you going to accomplish in the near future?  Leave a link below in the comment section, I’d love to see them.  I’d love to follow you on Pinterest too!

Blessings and happy Pinning!

French Toast–Made Healthier…

May 2, 2012

IMG_1261

If you have been around a while you know that I LOVE breakfast.  Absolutely love it.  The problem lies in the fact that I am trying eat healthier and loose some of these pounds that have snuck up on to me!!!!

My original recipe for French Toast is made with half and half.  Not the healthiest choice when you are trying to watch what you eat.  I needed to cut some of the calories so that I didn’t feel quite so bad when I ate it.  I would actually have thoughts like, “This is so good, but I should not be eating this.”

My original recipe, using Smart-White Bread, had 300 calories for 2 slices of French Toast.  I have modified my original recipe by using Almond Milk in place of Half and Half and saved 80 calories.  2 slices of my modified recipe has 200 calories.  Add 2 slices of Turkey Bacon and you have a well rounded breakfast for under 300 calories.

Here is the new Healthier recipe:

1/2 Cup Almond Milk

3 Eggs

2 Tbsp. Agave Nectar

pinch of salt

dash of vanilla

6 Slices Wonder Smart White Bread – 50 calories per slice

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Preheat Skillet

In a medium bowl mix together the first 5 ingredients.

Dip each slice of bread in the mixture for about 10-15 seconds.  Be careful the bread will soak up the mixture quickly.

Place bread on preheated skillet.  Let cook for 2-3 minutes on each side.

Once all pieces have been cooked on skillet, place on a baking sheet.

Bake in 375 degree oven for 7 minutes.

This last step of baking in the oven sets the custard and it is absolutely divine!

The best part is that I made these changes and did not tell the kiddos.  They raved about it and said it was SOOOOOO good, before I could even ask them.  I consider that a success!

I hope to “successfully” makeover some other recipes to share with you.  I’ll share them with you once we have another success!

Blessings,

Tirzah

April 30, 2012
IMG_7463

Peanut Butter and Jelly Baked Oatmeal

Happy Monday to you!

We are experiencing some rather warm weather her in the south.  We will be pushing close to 90 degrees this week. YUCK!  It is hot and I don’t know about you but cooking can be tough when it is hot.  I just remind myself that it is better for us to eat home cooked meals than to go out.  I control what goes into the food I cook and I ensure that my family is eating healthy.

I am trying to cook some extra meals to stock up my freezer.  This will help on those nights that I just don’t feel like cooking.  Let’s face it, we all have those days.  This week I will be doubling Sloppy Joe’s and Italian Beef Hoagies.  I’ll put the extra meat mixtures in the freezer for a meal later in the month!

How do you beat the cooking blues?

I’m going to make a batch with the intention that they need to last the week!  We will see how that goes!

Moments to Remember—His First Tooth

April 28, 2012

Captain America lost his first tooth!!!  YEAH…  This is a big deal, because Captain America was very concerned about loosing his teeth.  He does not like blood… AT ALL.  So, he had been  holding onto that tooth and not willing to let us pull it out.  Even though he was ready for it to come out.  With the help of a friend and an unfortunate knee to the mouth, the tooth came out!

After the initial shock Captain America was very excited about loosing his tooth and realized it wasn’t as bad as he kept thinking it would be, even with the help of a knee!

We have three more that are loose and we are waiting on those to come out too!!!
